Overview

Perched on a rocky hillside in Aragón’s Matarraña region, Consolación is a design-led rural retreat shaped around a direct connection to the landscape. A restored stone farmhouse sits at the centre of the estate, while a small number of glass-and-steel cube suites are set among olive groves and rugged terrain, each oriented towards uninterrupted views across the surrounding hills. With fewer than a dozen rooms and suites, the property remains intentionally intimate, with privacy, open views and a slower pace forming the core of the stay. Wellness here is understated — space, stillness and time outdoors.

What we love

Consolación

It’s the way the design opens you out to the landscape. Each glass cube sits apart within the olive grove, slightly raised so your view holds the horizon and other guests fall out of sight. Floor-to-ceiling glazing brings the outside fully in, while timber, linen and muted tones keep the space warm and grounded. With so little around, the scale of the landscape — and the darkness at night — becomes part of the experience.

Quiet Aragón

Consolación sits near the village of Monroyo in Aragón’s Matarraña region, known for its rolling hills, olive groves and historic stone villages. Winding roads lead through olive terraces, almond trees and scattered farmhouses before reaching the property. The landscape is agricultural — stone, dry earth and open sky stretching across the hills.

DESIGN

Cubes & farmhouse

The defining feature is a series of independent glass cubes, each designed as a private suite with its own terrace and wide views. Steel, glass and concrete are softened by wood and warmer interior finishes. The restored 19th-century farmhouse houses the restaurant and shared spaces, anchoring the contemporary architecture in the region’s heritage. Old stone and modern design sit comfortably side by side.

FOOD

Regional & seasonal

The restaurant draws on Aragonese produce and seasonal ingredients, prepared in a simple, contemporary style. Meals are served in the restored farmhouse, former outbuildings or on terraces overlooking the hills. Wine tastings, picnics and visits to a local olive oil mill can also be arranged.

WELLNESS

Landscape calm

Wellness here is deliberately light touch. A small outdoor pool is set into the hillside, offering relief from the summer heat. Massage, facials and reflexology can be arranged privately in-suite. Time spent walking through the olive groves, watching the light shift across the hills and the space between the suites becomes the main form of restoration.

Suites

Accommodation centres on the independent cube suites, each positioned for privacy and open views. Expansive glazing and private terraces create a sense of openness, balanced by warm, restrained interiors. With distance between buildings, even when the hotel is full, it rarely feels busy.

Getting there

The nearest airport is Castellón (approx. 1 hour 30 minutes by car), though most international travellers arrive via Valencia (around 2 hours) or Barcelona (approx. 2 hours 30 minutes). A car is recommended to reach the property and explore the surrounding region.

Child policy

Consolación is best suited to adults and older children. Due to the design of the cube suites and the quiet, low-density layout, it is not particularly geared towards younger families.

Things to do

Walking and cycling through the Matarraña countryside are the main draws, with quiet roads and marked trails connecting hilltop villages and olive groves. Visits to nearby towns such as Valderrobres and Calaceite offer a glimpse of traditional stone architecture and local life. Wine tastings and olive oil experiences can also be arranged.

Points of interest

Monroyo village is a short drive away. Valderrobres (20 minutes) is one of the region’s most notable medieval towns, with a hilltop castle and historic centre. The Ports Natural Park offers more rugged landscapes, hiking routes and panoramic viewpoints.

Sustainability

The project combines the restoration of an existing farmhouse with low-impact architectural additions that sit lightly within the landscape. The low room count limits density, and local sourcing supports regional producers, particularly within the food offering.

Cancellation

Your stay is booked with Wellness Traveller. Cancellation and amendment terms vary depending on the room, rate and dates you choose. The terms that apply will be provided before you confirm your booking and detailed on your booking confirmation.

For refundable bookings, Wellness Traveller requires an additional 24 hours' notice before the hotel’s cancellation deadlines, allowing us time to process the cancellation on your behalf.

If your plans change, please email hello@wellnesstraveller.co, quoting your booking reference. Your cancellation will take effect from the date we receive your written request.

A £25 administration fee per booking applies where you ask us to make a change or cancellation, in addition to any cancellation charges that apply to your booking. This fee does not apply where you have a statutory right to cancel without charge.
