Overview

Overlooking the Mediterranean just west of Palma, Hospes Maricel occupies a neo-classical palace whose carved stone arches frame uninterrupted sea views. Built in the mid-20th century and long associated with Mallorca’s early jet-set era, it was once a meeting point for artists, aristocracy and travellers drawn to the island’s quieter elegance. Today the hotel sits directly above the water, with terraces and pools oriented towards the sea, shaping an easy, outdoor way of living. Palma is only a short drive away, yet inside the property the atmosphere shifts toward something slower and more composed — stone, sea and light setting the tone. Children are welcome, though the infinity pool and terraces remain largely adult in feel, particularly in high season.

    ARCHITECTURE
    Palace and sea

The original Maricel Palace remains the visual anchor of the property, its arches and terraces facing directly onto the Mediterranean. Inside, high ceilings, pale stone and generous proportions preserve a sense of grandeur, with contemporary artworks adding contrast. Rooms are divided between the palace and a contemporary wing across the road, connected by a discreet underground passage. The newer building offers a lighter, more modern feel while maintaining the same sea-facing orientation. Both share the same horizon.

    WATER & SEA
    Bodyna

The Bodyna Spa sits partly carved into the rock at sea level, creating a close connection with the Mediterranean. An indoor pool framed by arched stone windows looks directly onto the water, while a hammam, sauna and treatment rooms offer massage and restorative bodywork. Treatments focus on relaxation and recovery after time spent swimming or exploring the island. The spa feels atmospheric rather than extensive — a quiet continuation of the sea-led feel of the property.

    TABLE
    Mediterranean terrace dining

Dining unfolds on terraces overlooking the bay, with the Mediterranean as part of the setting. The kitchen follows a seasonal Mediterranean approach, combining Mallorcan ingredients with a contemporary touch. Lunch leans towards lighter dishes suited to warm afternoons by the sea, while dinner slows as the light fades across the water.

    PLACE
    West of Palma

Hospes Maricel sits on the rocky coastline of Calvià, just west of Palma. This stretch of shoreline is defined less by beaches and more by villas and terraces built directly above the water. Its position allows easy access to Palma’s galleries, markets and restaurants while remaining removed from the busier resort areas. From the terraces, the view runs uninterrupted across the Bay of Palma.

    Sleep
    Rooms & Suites

Rooms and suites are oriented towards the water, many opening onto terraces overlooking the bay. Interiors soften the palace architecture with natural materials, warm tones and restrained furnishings. In the contemporary wing, the design becomes lighter and more modern while maintaining the same calm, sea-facing feel.
