Overview

In Palma’s historic Calatrava quarter, El Llorenç Parc de la Mar is a quietly atmospheric urban retreat, with just 33 rooms and suites arranged around inward-facing spaces that create a sense of calm despite its city setting. The design, led by Swedish interior architect Magnus Ehrland, draws on Moorish geometry and Mediterranean textures — arches, patterned tiles, burnished metals and deep jewel tones that soften the brightness outside. At its centre is a well-regarded spa and rooftop pool, offering space to reset between time in the city. The cathedral and sea sit only moments away, yet once inside the mood turns inward, creating an enveloping calm within the old town.

    Place
    Calatrava quarter

The hotel sits within Palma’s Calatrava district, one of the city’s oldest quarters, long associated with noble townhouses and small palaces. The narrow streets here feel calmer than the busier parts of the old town, lined with warm sandstone façades and quiet courtyards. Nearby are the remains of Palma’s medieval defensive walls and the Arab Baths, reflecting the city’s layered past. La Seu cathedral is just a few minutes away, with Parc de la Mar and the waterfront just below the city walls. Despite its central location, the surrounding lanes remain distinctly residential.

    Ritual
    Hammam & thermal calm

The spa sits beneath the hotel in a series of softly lit spaces shaped by arches and lantern light. A heated indoor pool anchors the thermal circuit, alongside a hammam and sauna. Treatments focus on relaxation and balance, often drawing on Mediterranean ingredients such as olive oil and aromatic botanicals. The atmosphere is intimate and calm — warmth, steam and quiet replacing the energy of the streets above.

    Table
    DINS by Santi Taura

DINS brings real culinary depth to the hotel. Chef Santi Taura — one of Mallorca’s most respected culinary voices — was awarded a Michelin star in 2021, alongside two Repsol Suns. His tasting menus explore the island’s food traditions, revisiting Mallorcan recipes and ingredients through precise contemporary technique. The restaurant sits within a space with much older roots; during restoration it was identified as the site of an 11th-century Islamic pottery workshop. That history carries through today, with Taura handmaking many of the ceramics used in the restaurant.

    Sleep
    Rooms & Suites

Rooms are shaped by rich textiles, ambient lighting and textured surfaces, creating a cocooning atmosphere that contrasts with the brightness outside. Some suites open onto balconies with views towards the cathedral and sea, though the interiors remain intentionally sheltered and calm.
