Overview
In the heart of Ribera del Duero, around two hours north of Madrid, the 12th-century Romanesque monastery of Santa María de Retuerta now houses Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine, a vineyard estate hotel surrounded by vines and pine forest. The restored cloister, refectory and stone arcades remain intact as part of Spain’s protected heritage. There are thirty rooms and suites spread across the abbey and adjoining buildings, a Michelin-starred restaurant and the Santuario Wellness & Spa. Set in peaceful countryside, it draws those who come for good food, local wine and the quiet, restorative rhythm of the spa.

Place
Castilian wine country

The estate sits in Sardón de Duero, one of Spain’s most respected wine regions, known for its powerful Tempranillo wines. Surrounded by its own working vineyards, the land opens beyond the abbey walls into wide Castilian plains, where vines and farmland run out towards the horizon.

Wellness
Santuario Spa
The award-winning Santuario Wellness & Spa in the former stables, is a calm, light-filled space. Water is drawn from a deep underground well and filtered to a mineral quality. A thermal circuit creates a slower rhythm of heat, water and rest. Treatments draw on Eastern traditions, alongside yoga, breathwork and sound immersion that focus on mind–body awareness.
Table
Refectorio and the estate table

The former refectory houses the Michelin-starred Refectorio, where Chef Marc Segarra works with seasonal, locally sourced produce. Vinoteca offers a more relaxed take on Castilian cooking. Across both restaurants, the estate’s own wines remain central to the experience.

Sleep
Rooms & Suites

Rooms and suites are spread across the abbey and adjoining buildings. Interiors balance preserved architectural details with simple, contemporary comfort — stone, wood and soft tones. The feeling is calm and unforced, with light and the landscape present through every window.
