There’s a depth of quiet here that feels increasingly rare. Early mornings start softly, with mist hanging low over the vineyards and just the sound of birdsong and church bells in the distance. The monastery’s history is all around you, from stone corridors, vaulted spaces and hidden courtyards that create natural pause points throughout the day. Relaxation could be a morning in the salt cave or spa, or a gentle walk, then a glass of Barolo under the vines as the afternoon light fades. It’s all about relaxing and enjoying yourself, your way.
Relais San Maurizio is set in the heart of the UNESCO-listed Langhe hills, with vineyards, forests and medieval villages all around. Each season brings its own magic, from lush green summers to autumn days filled with the scent of truffles and a gentle, peaceful stillness.
Dining here celebrates the flavours and seasons of Piedmont without ever feeling heavy or excessive. Truffles, local wines and regional ingredients appear throughout the menus, while the slower rhythm of meals becomes part of the restorative experience itself.
Rooms retain the soul of the original monastery through vaulted ceilings, antique details and warm natural fabrics. Suites feel deeply calming, particularly those overlooking the vineyards and gardens, where the surrounding silence becomes part of the atmosphere.
Relais San Maurizio is in Santo Stefano Belbo in the Langhe hills, Piedmont. Relais San Maurizio is family-friendly but luxury services and the property’s historic layout mean some rooms and common areas are better suited to adults. Cots and extra beds may be available on request; check room suitability and any age-related restrictions for spa access when booking.
Explore the hotel’s spa and outdoor pool, book cooking classes or wine-pairing experiences, and enjoy guided walks in the surrounding vineyards. The concierge can arrange vineyard and cellar visits, truffle hunts (seasonal), bike rentals, private wine tastings, and bespoke dining experiences at the hotel’s fine‑dining restaurant. Seasonal extras include hot‑air ballooning, horseback riding, and guided hikes in the rolling Langhe landscape.
The Langhe and Roero wine regions (Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera) are within short drives; Alba is ~30–40 minutes away, famed for truffles and markets. Nearby villages (Barolo, La Morra, Monforte d’Alba) offer wineries, enotecas and panoramic viewpoints. Cultural attractions include local castles, medieval towns and the Slow Food heritage sites. Day trips to Turin or the Ligurian coast are feasible for a longer outing.
Relais San Maurizio emphasizes local sourcing and regional cuisine, collaborating with nearby producers and wineries. The property’s restoration retained historic fabric and promotes low-impact hospitality; many experiences focus on local terroir and seasonal produce to reduce food miles. Ask the hotel about current sustainability initiatives (waste reduction, energy measures, local partnerships) for up-to-date details.
