Monastero San Biagio
Our concierge is here to help you choose the right room and answer any questions before you book.
One of the first things you notice at San Biagio is the quiet. Woodland paths, thermal waters and holistic wellbeing come together to create a retreat where nothing feels hurried and very little asks for your attention. You're invited to spend time in the forest, soak in the thermal waters, pause between treatments or simply sit with a book and your own thoughts. It's remarkable how quickly the constant background noise of everyday life begins to fade. After a few days, you realise you haven't really missed it at all.
The Umbrian countryside has a quiet generosity about it. Forests, rolling hills and open skies surround the monastery, inviting long walks, moments of stillness and time spent outdoors without any particular destination in mind. Simply being here creates a welcome sense of space that is increasingly hard to find.
The food has a lovely sense of restraint. Seasonal Umbrian ingredients, thoughtful cooking and generous flavours remind you that a memorable meal doesn't need to be elaborate. Sometimes, the simplest things are exactly what you're craving.
Historic stone walls, vaulted ceilings and original architectural details tell the story of the monastery's past, while thoughtful contemporary touches ensure it feels warm and comfortable today. It's the kind of restoration that honours the building without ever trying to reinvent it.
Wellbeing at San Biagio begins with the natural thermal waters that have drawn people to this part of Umbria for centuries. Hydrotherapy, holistic treatments, yoga, meditation, forest bathing and immersive water sound baths combine to calm the nervous system and gently release physical and mental tension. You leave feeling lighter, clearer and more balanced.
Rooms and suites are beautifully simple, with natural materials, soft textures and uncluttered interiors that make it wonderfully easy to switch off. There's very little to distract you here, and that's precisely the point. Sleep comes naturally when everything around you feels so calm.
Monastero San Biagio is located just outside the hilltop town of Nocera Umbra in Umbria, approximately 45 minutes by car from Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi Airport and around two and a half hours from Rome. A hire car is recommended for exploring the surrounding countryside and medieval towns.
Children are welcome, although the peaceful atmosphere and contemplative setting make Monastero di San Biagio particularly well suited to couples, solo travellers and anyone seeking a restorative escape.
Explore the monastery grounds, relax in the spa, join yoga or meditation sessions, walk through the Umbrian countryside, visit nearby Assisi, Spello and Gubbio, or discover local vineyards, artisan producers and traditional hilltop villages. Experiences can be arranged through your Wellness Traveller concierge.
Nocera Umbra, Assisi, Spello, Gubbio and the Monte Subasio Regional Park are all within easy reach, offering a rich blend of history, nature and authentic Umbrian culture.
The restoration of the historic monastery has been carried out with great respect for its heritage and surrounding landscape. A focus on local produce, seasonal cuisine and thoughtful stewardship of the estate reflects the hotel's commitment to preserving both the character of the building and the traditions of the region.
