Many of today's most talked-about wellbeing practices aren't new at all. Sleep well. Move every day. Eat fresh seasonal food. Spend time outdoors. Restore balance before illness appears. More than two thousand years later, those principles still feel remarkably relevant. KOIA never turns that heritage into theatre or mythology. Instead, it translates it into an elegant modern lifestyle where thoughtful design, restorative rituals and the natural rhythm of the island make wellbeing feel refreshingly uncomplicated. You leave feeling as though you’ve remembered something instinctively human.
Where wellbeing began Kos is forever linked with Hippocrates, whose belief that health is shaped by our environment, daily habits and relationship with nature continues to influence modern wellbeing today. Beyond the resort, olive groves, coastal paths, fragrant herbs and endless sea views create a landscape that naturally encourages a slower, more balanced pace of life, making the island itself feel like part of the experience.
Ancient principles, contemporary rituals At the heart of KOIA lies the YDΩR Spa, where water, Mediterranean botanicals and Hippocratic healing traditions are reinterpreted through contemporary therapies. Hydrotherapy, herbal elixirs, thermal experiences and treatments infused with ingredients such as lavender, rosemary, mastiha and saffron create rituals that feel deeply, wonderfully restorative.
The Mediterranean prescription Food follows the same philosophy as the rest of the retreat: simple, seasonal and deeply nourishing. Menus celebrate local produce, fresh seafood, olive oil and aromatic herbs, embracing the Mediterranean way of eating as a sustainable way of life. Meals are designed to be savoured slowly, with a gentle reminder that how we eat can be just as important as what we eat.
Suites combine natural materials, soft neutral tones and uninterrupted Aegean views to create an immediate sense of calm. Interiors are intentionally uncluttered, allowing light, landscape and silence to take centre stage. Like every aspect of KOIA, the rooms are designed around a simple idea: that genuine restoration happens when both body and mind are allowed to settle naturally.
KOIA is located on the northeast coast of Kos, around 30 minutes from Kos International Airport. Direct flights operate from several UK and European cities during the summer season, with private transfers easily arranged.
KOIA is an adults-only retreat, welcoming guests aged 16 and over. The peaceful atmosphere is designed for relaxation, wellbeing and uninterrupted rest.
Explore the Asklepion, the ancient healing sanctuary associated with Hippocrates, wander Kos Town's harbour and historic streets, or cycle the island's quiet coastal routes. Boat trips, secluded beaches and traditional mountain villages offer further opportunities to experience the island's slower rhythm. Our concierge can also arrange private cultural experiences, sailing excursions and guided wellness activities.
The Asklepion of Kos, Hippocrates' Plane Tree, Kos Town, the mountain village of Zia and the nearby island of Pserimos are all within easy reach, offering a blend of history, culture and Aegean landscapes.
KOIA has been thoughtfully designed to sit gently within its hillside setting, using local stone, native planting and biophilic architecture to strengthen its connection with the surrounding landscape. Seasonal ingredients, regional producers and a philosophy centred on living in harmony with nature reinforce the retreat's holistic approach to wellbeing.
