Overview

For thousands of years, Ibiza has drawn those looking for something different. Long before the free thinkers of the 1960s made the island famous, Phoenicians came to worship Tanit, goddess of fertility and creation. Across the centuries, that magnetism has remained remarkably strong. Whether a group of friends, a couple or a solo traveller, this journey takes you inside Ibiza’s creative and free-spirited world, exploring different ways to think, make and live. Meet people who followed a pull here, as well as islanders keeping traditions alive, and possibility begins to feel contagious.

No two journeys are exactly the same. Every experience is adapted around your interests, preferred pace, group size and travel dates.
Start your journey
Arrive
The lives they choose

Your host came to Ibiza years ago and never left. Head into the island’s pine forests together, following old paths towards a viewpoint over the Mediterranean, where there’s time for a guided meditation. Along the way, walk for a while in silence and hear more about Ibiza’s enduring pull, from ancient beliefs and Phoenician settlers to the free thinkers who arrived generations later.

Create
Making your own rules

In the campo, sculptor Christopher Stone works among bronze, timber, fabric and canvas, surrounded by finished pieces and works in progress. Spend the morning inside his world, talking about where ideas begin. Before long, wine is open, something local appears on the table, and conversation wanders from sculpture to dogs and the simple compulsion to keep making the thing you see in your head.

Express
Style it your way

Ibiza has always dressed on its own terms. Step inside its fashion and design world, where natural fabrics, embroidery, craft and a little rebellion still shape the island’s distinctive style. Meet designers behind Ibiza’s famous Adlib style and movement, pull pieces from the rail and hear how an island known for doing things differently created a look to match.

Make
Made by local hands

Long before Ibiza became a magnet for international creatives, islanders were making what everyday life required from the materials around them. Spend time with local Ibicencan makers keeping traditions such as basket weaving and esparto work alive, then wander one of the island’s artisan markets, where generations of craft and Ibiza’s more recent bohemian spirit sit comfortably side by side.

Cultivate
Room to grow

At Juntos Farm, one of Ibiza’s farm-to-table trailblazers, something freshly picked always seems to be heading towards the kitchen. Walk the land with the people behind it, tasting as you go and hearing about what they’re trying next. By lunchtime, plates arrive from the farm restaurant and growers, cooks and whoever else is around pull up a chair.

Alchemy
Wild at heart

Walk the old dirt paths of Ibiza’s northern hills with a hierbas maker, gathering rosemary, thyme, fennel and other wild botanicals along the way. Back beneath a shaded pergola, the table disappears beneath herbs and small glasses as you taste and experiment with a tradition where every family seems to have its own recipe. Blend, bottle and seal your own Hierbas Ibicencas, taking a little of the island home with you.

Design
Setting the scene

Los Enamorados opens its doors before the lunch crowd arrives. Founder Pierre Traversier welcomes you into the eclectic world he created with his wife, creative director Rozemarijn de Witte: vintage finds, bold colour, art collected around the globe and a Mediterranean view that needs very little help. Music comes on. Cocktails are shaken. Tables fill. Stay for lunch as the place comes alive.

Water
Living on the sea

Step aboard a beautifully restored classic sailing boat with a captain who knows this coastline intimately. Follow the coastline in search of quiet coves and clear blue shallows. Drop anchor. Swim and snorkel. There’s time for yoga or meditation on deck before lunch is served barefoot in the sun. As the island slips past, hear stories of the ancient seafarers who crossed these waters, trading, settling and connecting Ibiza with the wider Mediterranean world.

Belong
Long after sunset

For a couple or solo traveller, the final evening might lead to Benirràs, following the sound of drums towards the shore as the sun goes down. For a group of friends, make the night your own. Somewhere special is opened up just for you, a long table laid beneath the stars and a few local artists, musicians and island characters invited to join. Food arrives, live music carries into the night, and dinner gradually takes on a life of its own.

Reflect
Looking back

There’s something about Ibiza that makes unconventional choices seem entirely ordinary. A different way of dressing. Making a living from something you love. Following an instinct without knowing exactly where it will lead. Spend enough time here and your own sense of what’s possible seems to widen. Ibiza doesn’t offer a blueprint for a life well lived. Perhaps that’s precisely its appeal.
