On a family farm on the slopes of Etna, the morning begins with fresh milk warming over the fire, turning it into traditional cheeses using techniques learnt from the hands before them. Warm ricotta is spooned into baskets and tasted while still fresh, with bread, herbs and views across the volcanic landscape.

Stories passed down

Behind the curtain of a Sicilian puppet theatre, rows of painted knights and hand-carved faces fill a workshop run by generations of the same family. Spend time with a master puppeteer and the younger generation, learning how the weighty pupi are brought to life and stories retold.

In a village family kitchen, Sunday lunch has been underway since early morning, rolling pasta, tasting sauces and preparing dishes learnt by watching the generation before.
