Overview

Across Catalonia, villages still gather throughout the year to celebrate traditions that have been passed from one generation to the next. On this journey, you'll step behind the scenes, meeting musicians and Casteller groups, the remarkable human towers that can reach ten storeys high. You’ll get to spend time with local families as the whole village comes together. Along the way, you’ll discover that belonging is not something we find. It’s something we create together.

Every journey is built around one of Catalonia's traditional festivals, with dates changing throughout the year depending on the local calendar.

Start your journey
Prepare
Making it happen

As the final touches are applied to decorations and giant festival figures, you’ll hear about the traditions and meaning behind the celebration. As you meet the volunteers who have been organising the event for months, you’ll come to appreciate that with a little effort, a whole community can come together.

Rhythm
Finding the beat

Join local musicians and performers during a final rehearsal, learning the rhythms and songs that accompany the festival. Before long, you're clapping, singing and smiling alongside them, caught up in traditions that have brought communities together for generations.

Contribute
Everyone has a role

Spend an evening with a Castelleres as neighbours, friends and families prepare for practice. Standing among them, you’ll discover that every person has a place, whether supporting the base or climbing to the very top. As the tower rises, so does the real lesson: remarkable things are built when everyone carries part of the weight.

Table
Preparing the feast

Roll up your sleeves as preparations begin for a traditional Escudella, Catalonia's festival stew. Fires are tended, enormous pots simmer for hours and stories unfold around the table. By the time everyone gathers to eat, you realise the meal was only ever part of the tradition. The real ritual was creating the connection around it.

Celebrate
When the village comes alive

The streets fill with music. Gegants emerge from hidden doorways. Human towers rise above the square. Long tables overflow with food as neighbours, families and visitors gather together. You leave with tired feet, a full stomach and new friendships, carrying home the rare feeling of having been part of something bigger.
