Local insights, insider tips and practical information to help you plan your journey.
Where are the Cyclades and which Greek islands will I visit?
The Cyclades are a beautiful group of Greek islands in the Aegean Sea, known for their whitewashed villages, turquoise waters and centuries-old maritime traditions. Your journey begins on Paros, with private sailing experiences around neighbouring Antiparos and the uninhabited island of Despotiko. Your final crossing takes you to Santorini, where you'll arrive by sea into its spectacular volcanic caldera.
When is the best time for a sailing holiday in the Cyclades?
May, June, September and early October are wonderful times to explore the Cyclades, with warm weather, fewer crowds and beautiful conditions for swimming and island life. July and August are typically hotter and busier, with stronger Meltemi winds that can affect sailing conditions. As every voyage is shaped by the weather, your experienced local skipper will adapt the route and daily plans to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
Do I need sailing experience to enjoy this journey?
Not at all. This is a privately skippered sailing experience, so you can simply relax and enjoy being on the water. Your experienced local skipper takes care of navigation while sharing stories and insights into life on the Aegean. There's plenty of time for swimming, snorkelling, exploring secluded anchorages and discovering the islands. If you're curious about sailing, you'll also have opportunities to learn from your skipper along the way.
Will we be staying on the boat or in hotels?
You'll enjoy the freedom of sailing without having to sleep on board. This journey is designed around beautiful boutique accommodation, typically based on Paros, with a final stay overlooking Santorini's caldera in Imerovigli. Your private sailing experiences take place during the day, allowing you to return to the comfort of your hotel, enjoy local restaurants and experience the rhythms of island life each evening.
What makes visiting Despotiko special?
Despotiko is a small, uninhabited island near Antiparos, home to an important ancient sanctuary dedicated to Apollo. Once a place of worship for people travelling across the Aegean, its archaeological remains offer a fascinating connection to the region's maritime history. Arriving by private boat, you'll have time to explore the island's ancient past, enjoy its peaceful surroundings and swim in the clear waters nearby.
Are the sailing experiences private, and is everything arranged for us?
Yes. This is a privately arranged Signature Journey, not a group sailing tour. Your charter, skipper, local encounters and guided experiences are organised around you and your travelling companions. We'll also arrange your accommodation and transfers between destinations and experiences, with our trusted local team coordinating everything on the ground. If you'd prefer a dedicated local host to accompany you throughout, we can arrange that too. Your personalised proposal will confirm exactly what's included.
Can I extend my Cyclades sailing journey or visit other Greek islands?
Absolutely. We recommend five nights or more to fully enjoy this journey, but the duration and itinerary can be tailored to your interests, dates and preferred pace. You might choose to spend longer exploring Paros and Antiparos, enjoy additional sailing days or extend your stay on Santorini. We can also create a longer Greek island-hopping itinerary, combining carefully selected accommodation, private experiences and seamless transfers between destinations.
